Modest Mouse The Moon Antarctica Rar

Modest Mouse's Epic debut, The Moon & Antarctica, finds them strangely subdued, focusing on mortality as well as the moody, acoustic side of their music and downplaying the edgy rock that helped make them indie stars. Not that their first major-label release sounds like a sellout - actually, the slight sheen of Brian Deck's production enhances the album's introspective tone - but occasionally. The Moon & Antarctica is the third full-length album by American rock band Modest Mouse, first released by Epic Records on June 13, 2000. The album was the band's first release on a major label and was released on both compact disc and vinyl LP. It has since been reissued twice on CD and once on vinyl. Modest Mouse 's Epic debut, The Moon & Antarctica, finds them strangely subdued, focusing on mortality as well as the moody, acoustic side of their music and downplaying the edgy rock that helped make them indie stars. Following the success of The Moon & Antarctica, Sad Sappy Sucker was finally released in April 2001, several years after it had initially been shelved. Mainstream recognition of Modest Mouse accelerated in 2004, with the release of Good News for People Who Love Bad News in April. The album charted at No. 18 in the United States and was their first to chart outside of their home country, peaking at No. 37 in Scotland and No. 40 in the United Kingdom.

Modest Mouse- The Moon and AntarcticaPosted by The Seaward on 6/13/20 at 7:01 pm
Released twenty years ago today. As far as I’m concerned, not sure anything better has been released since. An absolute classic.

It's five stars, and now i feel really old. The early 2000's was a really good period for music. Especially for new bands like The Strokes, White Stripes, Arcade Fire, Built To Spill, My Morning Jacket, The Shins. I had just gotten back into exploring new music (i was wearing blinders in the 90's) and it was a glorious time.

When the album came out, I was thirteen and didn’t have a clue who Modest Mouse was. But when I discovered it in 2007, it hit hard and was a gateway to a bunch of new (to me) great music including some of the bands you listed.
Since I discovered Modest Mouse, I feel like I’ve flip flopped at least ten times on what is the better album, The Moon and Antarctica or Lonesome Crowded West.

3rd best album from them. Lonesome Crowded West is their opus.

Discovered this album last year, my freshman year of college. I wore this one out walking around campus

Great post. Fantastic album. I feel like it took me forever to catch them live. Pretty sure I had already caught BTS 5 times before I got the chance to see MM. FWIW they didn't measure up

Yep, same exact thing for me. Saw BtS five times before I finally got to see Modest Mouse.

Lonesome Crowded West is amazing. Series Of Sneaks by Spoon came out the next year and was equally good. Late 90's albums had an impact on what was to come.

I’m in total agreement about how stacked the late nineties were.
Lonesome Crowded West
Perfect From Now On
Keep It Like a Secret
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Emergency and I
I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One
Ok Computer
All from 97-99, all in my top 25 or so all-time. Plenty other great ones I didn’t even get to list from that period too.

Not familiar with that one. I’ll have to give it listen.
Looks like it was released the same exact day as Emergency and I, which I would have called the last great indie record of the 90s.
