Kindle For Mac Not Syncing

Everyone read eBooks in their own ways. We more or less keep company with Kindle among a cloud of eBooks, and I believe most of us read eBooks on more than one device. Thus we always have a need to sync last furthest page read from Kindle to iOS/Android devices or even computers for continuous eBook reading in different cases. This guide explains how to make our devices remember the furthest page we read in 4 methods. Not only Kindle books but also EPUB and PDF files (including MOBI books from public domains) are introduced as well.

Method 2: Reset whispersync to clear furthest page read. From 'Manage your Content and Devices' choose the 'Content' tab, select the book you don't want to sync, and click on the 'Action' button next to the title of the book. Then a list of options will appear, click on 'Clear furthest page read.' Manage Your Content and Devices Go to Manage Your Content and Devices. Select the Preferences tab. Select Device Synchronization (Whispersync Settings) and confirm that the feature is turned ON. Your payment method may have been invalid when you purchased the content, which would prevent the content from syncing or opening on your device. From Manage Your Content and Devices, go to Settings. Under Kindle Payment Settings, select Edit Payment Method to view or update your 1-Click payment settings. If your kindle for pc/mac is 1.24, then this will not notification in this software. So please check your kindle for pc/mac version at first. If your kindle for pc /mac is higher than 1.24 but there is no notice, please contact us via epubor.iris@gmail.com to get the further assistance.

Sync Kindle furthest page read with Kindle devices and apps
Sync EPUB Books last page read through Ibis reader (web)
Sync eBooks (EPUB/MOBI/PDF) through Moon + Reader plus Dropbox
eBook sync furthest page read between iOS devices

1. Sync purchased Kindle books furthest page read among Kindle devices and apps

It has been indicated in the minor heading, this method only works with the books which you have purchased in Amazon Kindle store, you can't do it with downloaded or converted mobi books.

If you are tuned with Amazon, you must know a service called Whispersync. Once you buy a Kindle device or install any Kindle reading apps, this service will be actived on your Amazon account and it's totally free. This service will sync your purchased Kindle book's furthest page read record on all your Kindle devices and reading apps.

For example, you have a Kindle Paperwhite and an iPhone with Kindle app, and you have downloaded one book on both of them. On your way to company, you were reading this book by iPhone Kindle app to page 50. Before you sleep, you read the book on Kindle Paperwhite and it will sync the last page read (page 50) automatically if your Kindle Paperwhite is connected to a network.

Here I take syncing last page read between Kindle for PC and iPhone Kindle app for example.

1) End reading on Kindle for PC and memorize the page you left off. The program will memorize the page automatically, for satety's sake, you can also add a bookmark on this page as the bookmark will also be synced by Whispersync.

2) Launch Kindle on the iPhone and tap the same book, then it will be opened on the latest page you read on Kindle for PC.

Useful Tip :

As I mentioned before, this method only works for those purchased Kindle books, because only you purchased them, those books' information will store on your Amazon cloud.

Are there any ways to use this service on your downloaded or converted books? Not really. Amazon offers you another service, send-to-Kindle email. Once you transfer the book to your device or app by your Kindle email, this file is also stored on your Amazon cloud, then you can sync the furthest page read of those non-purchased Kindle books.

More information you can check this whispersync for Kindle guide, which also teachs you how to sync non-amazon books across Kindle apps and devices, how to sync kindle with audible narration, etc..

2. Sync EPUB book's furthest page read among devices and apps through ibis reader

If you don't have a Kindle device or app, and don't like mobi books either, then your books must are mainly in ePub format. For reading ePub both on computers and mobile devices and sync your furthest page read, you can use a free app called IBis Reader. It's a web-based reading app, therefore it suits any device which has intalled a web-browser.

The way it works is sort of like the Amazon cloud. Once you launch this app, you need to sign up an account, then all the information about your reading books are binded with your account, certainly including the last page read.

And the best way to make most of this app is to combine it with cloud storage service like DropBox. Here I sync between a computer and an android tablet as example.

Read eBooks on computer

1) Launch your browser and go to http://www.ibisreader.com. Click “Login” and input your email address & password to register.

2) Select “Add a Book”-> “Choose Files” ->'Open' ->”Add” and the selected title will be added to “MY BOOKS” field.

3) Click the cover of the uploaded book and start reading.

As ibis reader is an online service, you have to read the EPUB on the internet and the later syncing is achieved on the internet similarly.

Read eBooks on your device

To read the book where you left off, just launch browser on your tablet, go to ibis reader (http://www.ibisreader.com) and repeat the steps you did on your computer. Then you are allowed to read the last page.

Note:
1) Keep connected to the internet when you are reading books as Ibis reader is totally based on internet browser. (At least you should be online when you open the app to read and finish the reading, then you can sync your ePub book's furthest page read.)

2) As ibis reader only supports EPUB upload, we have to convert PDF and non-protected MOBI books to EPUB and then upload the converted EPUB books to ibis for reading and syncing.

3) To some extent, Ibis is able to fulfill the syncing function basically as there might be nonstandard characters occurred according to those from the original EPUB book. Nor will the notes, annotations and highlights be supported.

3. Sync eBooks between android devices through Moon + Reader plus Dropbox

Sometimes we read books on different android devices, say our android smartphone and tablet, thus we would like to figure out how to sync the last page read we left on Android devices.

Here we need to install two apps on our Android reading gadgets: Moon+ Reader and Dropbox.

Moon+ Reader is one of the most popular reading apps for android, which supports multi formats including EPUB, PDF, MOBI, TXT and so forth. Another tool, Dropbox is the most popular cloud store app in the world.

1) Search for Moon+ Reader app on your android phones and tablets. Download and install Moon + Reader app. Import your eBooks.

2) Download and install Dropbox app on your several android devices. It would be better if you also install it on your computer.

3) Open an eBook.

4) “Menu” (or “options”) -> “Miscellaneous” -> 'Sync reading positions via Dropbox'. When you exit the reader, it will automatically upload the position to Dropbox.

5) Run Moon + Reader on another device and open the same book. Check if it is at the latest reading position.

If the sync fails, refer to the following steps.

1) 'Miscellaneous' -> 'Backup' and input a backup name.

2) 'Miscellaneous' -> 'Restore'. Select above backup file to restore.

3) 'Miscellaneous' -> reselect 'Sync reading positions via Dropbox.

For some reason, we cannot sync the reading position on Moon + Reader at times. I personally prefer Amazon Kindle’s syncing feature regardless of its restrictions. You can also try to use Aldiko along with Aldiko Sync application to do this job, however, it seems to be a bit complicated.

4. Sync last page read between iOS devices

Sync furthest page read is never a problem for iOS users, the built-in iBooks app enables you to sync the furthest page read for all the books you loaded into the app, either purchased or non-purchased.

For example, if you have an iPad and an iPhone, all you need is to load the same book (the same file with the same name)to both of these two devices, then read them via iBooks. And notice, your device must connect to the internet then it can sync your last page read.

One reason that I like Kindle is, Amazon allows us to synchronize our Kindle books across multiple Kindle devices and apps. This feature is called 'whispersync'.

Kindle For Mac Not Syncing Ipod

This seamless reading experience is so cool. But the fact is that I often meet problems when switching reading between different Kindles. For example, after I read some pages with my Kindle voyage, the Kindle for iPad app didn't recognize where I stopped before.

This article is an official guide to the whispersync for Kindle books. It contains:

How to Turn on Whispersync Settings for Kindle

Step 1: Enable Whispersync Device Synchronization on Amazon account.

To keep our kindle library in sync, we must turn the 'whispersync for books' service on.

Visit Amazon official site and log in with your own kindle account, then go to 'Manage Your Content and Devices' and select the 'Settings' tab. Set 'Whispersync Device Synchronization' to ON under Device Synchronization (Whispersync Settings).

(To disable, choose OFF.)

This setting will help sync our books automatically. And 'Whispersync for Books' is enabled on Kindle Fire, Kindle devices and apps by default. This means you don't have to do anything to get it up and running on your Kindles.

Once activated we can go to the furthest page as well as any bookmarks, jighlights and notes.

You can also check the 'Whispersync for Books' settings on your Kindles.

On Kindles:

Go to Settings > Device Options > Advanced Options > Whispersync for Books > Enable.

On the Kindle Android app and Fire tablets:

Open the Kindle app and go to Settings > Whispersync for Books.

On the Kindle iOS apps:

Go to Settings > Other > Whispersync for Books.

If you still fail to sync across Kindle devices and apps, please continue to read and follow the troubleshooting guide below.

Step 2: Check whether the wifi is connected or not.

To allow automatic syncing, we must keep our device connected to a wireless network. If it is connected to the internet, but your whispersync is not turned on, delete the WiFi connection and reconnect it please.

Step 3: Register with the same account.

Please note that only by registering the same amazon account can your Kindles be synced automatically.

Somebody will think that the book has been downloaded to the device already, so even though I log in with another account or use other family member's account, this book will be still in the device. But in fact you should know that, all your books are saved in your Kindle library which are linked to your account. Account changed, all books in kindle library will also be changed.

Step 4: Check if the book has an 'update' version

If you are sure that you've downloaded the book successfully on several devices but you still can't sync them to the furthest location, a high possibility is because the version of the book you downloaded are different. Log into your settings area in Amazon then you will find that there was an 'update' in your book. In this occasion I recommend you delete the book from your devices and then re-download them to Kindles and mark the location in the book!

Step 5: Always return to the home screen when finished reading.

From Amazon customers' help document, to avoid syncing errors we are told to return to the home screen on our device when we finished reading. I tried to keep on the reading page screen and then switch to my other Kindle, then I found that the furthest page hasn't been synced. Therefore if you finished reading but staying on the page you last read, the page won't be synced on your another Kindle.

Tips: If the book is stuck at a certain page and won't budge try to modify the font size, that helps in many cases.

How to Sync non-Amazon Books across Kindle Devices and Apps

Above steps will help resolve 90% of problems about Amazon whispersync.

But there must be some people who bought some books from non-Amazon store such as Kobo, and then will find that they don't sync.

This is because those books we purchased from other stores are not compatible with Kindle. To use Kindle's whispersync service, firstly we must make sure the book formats are Kindle supported: Mobi or AZW3.

Step 1: Convert non-Amazon books to Kindle format

Most of books from non-amazon stores are with ePub or PDF (some Kobo books are kepub) format, while Kindle only supports the default Mobi (sometimes azw3 output is also OK). So we are required to convert the books format in advance. The tool highly recommended here is Epubor Ultimate (the best alternative to the Calibre).

Supported eBooks: Amazon Kindle, Google books, Kobo kepub and epub, Nook, etc..Please note that the iBooks epub and pdf are not supported.

Add eBooks to the main interface. Once books files added, the drm protection will also be removed (which helps you get rid of the eBooks store limitation).

Then choose output format as 'AZW3' or 'Mobi' to convert.

When converting finished, you will get your newly books which are saved as kindle formats.

Tips: One reader leaves a comment that she found she failed to sync the furthest page, highlights and dictionary after converting to azw3 format, but the Mobi format work. So if you also met similar problems try again to convert your books to Mobi please.

Step 2: Email these books to your device

In this part, you will wonder that why I should email them to the device but not the transferring via USB. Sideloaded books can be open and read on our device, but if we want to stay in sync, the correct way is to email them.

Amazon enables us to send files to our registered Kindle devices, free Kindle reading apps and our Kindle library in the amazon cloud library by emailing them to the Send-to-Kindle e-mail address ([name]@kindle.com).

Once the file emailed into Amazon’s server, it gets incorporated into the whispersync function, so Amazon will keep track of where you are in it.

Go to 'Manage Your Content and Devices' > 'Settings' > 'Personal Document Settings' > 'Edit Archive Settings' > 'Enable' > 'Update'.

Then, use an email address from 'Approved Personal Document E-mail List' to send the files. You can only send files by using the email from the list.

Please note that the Send-to-Kindle email address is different on different devices, though you are using the same account. So before sending files you can check the address on your device first: Settings > My Account > Send-to-Kindle Email.

The books should then magically appear on your connected devices, like your Kindle Paperwhite or the Kindle iPad app.

If you found that the file you sent hasn't arrived on your device, please select 'Docs' icon from the list, not the 'Books'.

Short version:

1, This is the official guide to sync non-Amazon purchased eBooks between Kindle, iPad, and iPhone.

2, This service won't help sync books to Kindle Cloud and Kindle for PC/Mac app. This means we can't read those converted books on computer with Kindle app. If we really want to read them and sync them on computer, convert them to ePub or PDF please and open them with iBooks or ADE.

Tips: Amazon also has a desktop app for both Windows and Mac that lets us send files to our Kindle by right-clicking on them on our computer and pressing 'Send to Kindle'. This is especially handy if you have many books to sync.

Kindle Whispersync for Voice

If you are tired of reading the book, you can switch seamlessly between reading and listening with Whispersync for Voice. But firstly you should own a copy of a Kindle book and a copy of the same title as an audible audiobook (you can buy from amazon's Kindle Books with Audible Narration page).

Then just choose one app and open the other, tap the book/ audible audio book to listen or read.

Your device syncs your position with the Amazon cloud by default. If by chance you found that the Kindle book and the audible narration aren't syncing, please manually sync your device or refresh. This will immediately check for new positions.

Can We Make Kindle Stop Syncing

The answer is Yes.

If you are sharing an account with a family member, and you are both reading the same book, it's really annoying when he/she finishes a book when you are just starting it, right? Many families share an amazon account so they can enjoy their digital books without having to buy separate copies for everyone.

Method 1: Turn on airplane mode.

This is the quick and easy option. But sometimes it is inconvenient when we want to do something (for example, use an app) on our tablet or phone.

Method 2: Reset whispersync to clear furthest page read.

From 'Manage your Content and Devices' choose the 'Content' tab, select the book you don't want to sync, and click on the 'Action' button next to the title of the book.

Then a list of options will appear, click on 'Clear furthest page read...'

Method 3: Turn syncing off.

If you and your husband (or other family members) are reading a Kindle book at the same time, you may don't want to see a prompt every time you open the book to go to the furthest page read, right? If so you can turn off whispersync completely.

If just want to stop syncing on one particular device or app, you can do from the settings menu. If you want to stop syncing on all devices, head to amazon account on the web and turn off 'Whispersync Device Synchronization'. For details please back to the part 1.

Method 4: Back up your Kindle books or Audible AA/AAX audio books.

Kindle For Mac Not Syncing

Method 2 can not help us un-synchronize just one of our books.

But if we can back up our purchases, we can rename these files to note the reader which version to open. For example, angela-for husband, angel-for wife.

The tool that helps back up Kindle books is Epubor Ultimate.

And Epubor Audible Converter will help you back up aa/aax audio files.

After you backed up your books, it would be better to rename these books so that you and other readers know which to open.

Wish this guide helps you. If you found your kindle whispersync not working, but this article didn't help you resolve the problem, leave your comments or contact our support team please.
